BCC

Who is the BCC?

We are a collective of capoeira teachers dedicated to the art capoeira and to passing on our knowledge with integrity and authenticity. We intentionally nurture a culture rooted in appreciation, honesty, vulnerability and shared leadership. We believe learning is a lifelong process. While we deeply respect time, dedication and experience in capoeira, we do not equate expertise with inherent superiority. Hierarchies can be valuable but we engage with them thoughtfully and critically. We move forward through cooperation, shared responsibility and mutual respect. Born from a struggle for justice capoeira, carries a responsibility to understand systems of oppression—how they function how we may perpetuate them and how we can actively work to dismantle them. Our goal is to cultivate a space where all people feel welcomed respected and safe.

Meet our Team

Mestre Bodinho

"With 28 years of experience in capoeira, I truly believe this art form has the power to change lives, cultivating happy, healthy individuals and strong communities. It connects us to something greater than ourselves, while remaining rooted in ancestral traditions. This belief is what drives my commitment to serving others through capoeira."

Mestra Marreta

"Capoeira offers us a ritual technology that has the power to alchemize suffering  through creativity, community relationships and expression of movement, music, philosophy. It is an honor to belong to the art form of Capoeira (it is not ours, we are it)."

ContraMestre Bateria

"I've been an Elementary School music teacher for many years while also teaching capoeira classes for all ages. Currently, as the Director of the Jogo de Corpo youth program of the BCC, I get to share my love of this art form with a bunch of fun and creative kids!"

Mestra Fogueira

"Capoeira is a fun and dynamic way to get in shape, make music, and challenge ourselves physically and creatively. Beyond that, it is a powerful tool for building community, navigating interpersonal challenges, and joyfully resisting the forces that divide us. After 32 years of practice, I am deeply grateful for its impact on my life."

Professor Polvo

"I began capoeira in my late 30s after bringing my kids to class and being drawn in by the fun, welcoming community. After my first class with Mestra Suelly, I was hooked. As a yoga teacher, I continue to draw inspiration from the body-aware teaching of Mestra Marreta and Mestre Itapuã Beiramar in my work at BCC."

Professor parabrisa

"While in Brazil in 2007 I saw capoeira for the first time and I was completely captivated. Capoeira brings together so many of the things I love and value (culture, music, movement, self-expression, community, and philosophy) combining them all into this beautiful art form. I hope to help create environments where others have the opportunity to experience what capoeira has so generously given to me."

Professor yago

"25 years of practicing Capoeira. I love its movement language and its ability to challenge and empower all of us through body, music, and communal expressions rooted in beautiful African and human primal instincts to engage and thrive."
