About HyFlex Capoeira : Fully Integrated Training Experience
Friday noon classes allow capoeiristas from around the world to train in real time with people training in person at historic Casa de Cultura in Berkeley, California. Instrutor Polvo (Tako) trained under Mestres Acordeon & Suelly and is also influenced by Mestre Itapuã Beiramar and Mestre Ferradura in Rio for their cutting edge techniques for creating satisfying interaction across a digital divide as well as by Mestra Marreta’s focus on anatomically sound movement patterns which support a lifetime of safe and joyful capoeira.
Due to the challenges of learning capoeira for the first time, the virtual option is only available to capoeiristas with some basic understanding of foundational capoeira movements, or experienced dancers/martial artists who are able to learn new moves simply from watching a few times. If you need to build a foundation, please train with a qualified teacher in person or through private virtual classes first! Get in touch with Tako to get the Zoom link!
About Instrutor Polvo (Tako)
Tako (Inst Polvo) began training in 2008 with Mestra Suelly who was teaching capoeira at Mills College in Oakland, California at the time. He received his batizado at Mestre Acordeon’s academy in Berkeley later that year and trained with both Mestres Acordeon & Suelly at UCA Berkeley until their retirement. Tako also apprenticed as a monitor under Mestre Mata Mosquito when Mata took over the Mills program in 2012, and eventually took on teaching the Mills program himself in 2015.
In his other life, Tako is a 500-hour registered yoga teacher. His understanding of anatomical alignment and physiology inspires him to make capoeira a sustainable, lifelong practice.
“Capoeira is a tool to make people better human beings”
