Berkeley Capoeira has the tradition of a batizado each Fall. At a batizado & troca de cordões ceremony, students are recognized for their hard work and training. We are excited to celebrate the incredible commitment of our capoeiristas! We are also excited to be graduating several members of our very own teaching and leadership team, including Fogueira who will be accepting the title of Mestra!

How does the “Co-Creation of Resistance” Theme Relate to the Batizado? 

This year’s theme reflects our responsibilities as capoeiristas to understand the history of capoeira as an Afro-Brazilian artistic manifestation intended to liberate its practitioners both physically and spiritually.

  • Masks are optional throughout the event. No judgement either way.
